The funeral of Shelby Eatenton Latcherie (Julia Roberts) is held at the American Cemetery, located on 2nd Street between Demeziere and the railroad tracks. This cemetery was founded in 1737 alongside the Catholic Church of St. Francis, making it one of the oldest burial grounds within the Louisiana Purchase region. Numerous descendants of the earliest Natchitoches families find their final resting place here. Susan Harling is actually buried across town at the Memory Lawn Cemetery.
