The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in partnership with the National Park Service and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will host a Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday, September 27 from 8 a.m.- noon at Natchitoches National Fish Hatchery. The event celebrates National Public Lands Day and invites young anglers to enjoy a morning of outdoor fun and freshwater fishing.
Participants will have the opportunity to catch channel catfish from one of the hatchery’s stocked ponds. Youth are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear; however, a limited number of rods will be available for use on a first-come, first-served basis.
In addition to the derby, the event will feature educational activities and interactive booths, including live animal displays designed to spark curiosity and inspire future conservation stewards.
The Youth Fishing Derby is free and open to the public. Prizes and giveaways will be offered while supplies last. Volunteers and staff from all three agencies will be on hand to assist participants and share conservation messages.
