In the hospital scene, one of the main characters, Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie (Julia Roberts) has been admitted to the hospital due to complications related to her diabetes. Shelby Eantenton's condition worsens, and her mother, M’Lynn Eatenton (Sally Field) and her friends gather around her in the hospital room. After being in a coma for several days, Jackson Latcherie (Dylan McDermott) decides it’s time to say their final goodbyes to Shelby Eatenton Latcherie (Julia Roberts).
In the early 1900’s, Natchitoches Regional Medical Center was founded and this location served as the hospital in Steel Magnolias. This hospital is where Susan Harling worked, gave birth and passed away. The hospital employees shown in this film were actual employees at work.
