City of Natchitoches Announces Tri-Centennial Steering Committee

The City of Natchitoches and Mayor Lee Posey have established a Steering Committee to lead the Tri-Centennial Celebration slated for 2014.  The City of Natchitoches is leading the celebration with major support from Cane River National Heritage Area, Inc. (CRNHA, Inc.), the Natchitoches Parish Tourism Commission, and the Natchitoches Historic District Development Commission.  Together they will bring together the vision, expertise, and resources of the State of Louisiana, the city and parish governments of Natchitoches, area businesses and civic organizations, and community members.

Cynthia Sutton, President of Cane River National Heritage Area, Inc. was named Chair of the Steering Committee.  Juanita Fowler, Director of Planning and Zoning for the City of Natchitoches; Daniel Graves, Commissioner of the Historic District Development Commission; and John Puckett, Chairman of the Natchitoches Parish Tourism Commission were named members of the Committee.  Mayor Lee Posey, Parish President Rick Nowlin, and Councilman David Stamey will serve as ex-officio members and advisors to the Steering Committee.  

“The committee will serve as a clearinghouse for all activities, events, merchandise, programming, and advertising tied to the Tri-Centennial Celebration,” confirmed Mayor Lee Posey.  “The coming year will be a celebration of community with events and programs that reflect the diverse cultural heritage of our parish and cities.” remarked CRNHA, Inc. President, Cynthia Sutton.  “Our yearlong celebration of Natchitoches’ Tricentennial is to include the entire community in a celebration of three hundred years of food, music, history, art and life in Natchitoches Parish.”
